PARENT/CARER DRAMA SESSIONS WITH THEIR CHILDREN

“The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to mankind”

Bessel van der Kolk

We provide a nurturing, safe space for young children and parents/carers. Using stories as a base, we create a supportive environment that allows children and their adults to play together, create their own scenarios, fostering multiple forms of communication and emotional regulation.

Through laughter, fun, a relaxed atmosphere and a wide array of props and puppets, we can support and nurture children and their parents/carers through these tailor-made sessions.

  • Laughter and humour are at the heart of our drama work, helping release tensions from anxiety, reduce cortisol (the main stress hormone) and diminish a sense of powerlessness and loss of control that children and adults can both feel.
  • The activities built into the programme are designed to increase positive attachment and help provide a healthy dose of those lovely feel good hormones – dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins.
  • Connection between the children and their adults is paramount.
  • We specialise in working with families who find themselves in challenging situations and have created a programme that sensitively builds a safe space for parents/carers and young children to express themselves and engage in playful bonding activities.
  • As with the schools’ groups, each session builds on the last, making each programme slightly different based on the input of the children and the adults. This builds a sense of ownership and empowerment, allowing participants to see their ideas in action and fleshed out during the next session. At the same time, we keep the same basic structure for each session which fosters a sense of safety and predictability.
  • The sessions always end with a chance come together as a group and to cool down so everyone leaves calm and energised.

“My daughter and I attended your wonderful sessions. Thank you for your incredible energy, sunny mood and easy bonding with both the adults and the children.”
